No more cleaning out by hand in heavy clay
Our machines have to last year after year in heavy clay, on dry loess and everything in between. That is why we develop, build and test everything ourselves in Borssele — with materials that stand up to real-world use and a design proven in the field.
In-house production
Everything under one roof in Borssele
Every Fentum machine is fully developed, manufactured and tested in-house at our premises on the Quistenburg in Borssele. From first sketches to field trial: no external manufacturers, no mass production. Our own machining department works steel with CNC precision, while experienced welders and fitters finish every part by hand. That short chain gives us the freedom to improve quickly — year after year.

Machining & CNC
Built for heavy conditions
We deliberately choose materials that hold up under extreme conditions. The spades are made of wear-resistant cast steel. Hardox skid plates absorb the abrasive forces in gravel and heavy clay. Maintenance-free bearings with the best sealing technology ensure maximum service life and minimal downtime. The bearing housings are designed to be quickly dismantled — so a field repair doesn't cost half a day.

The open-frame concept
A deliberate design choice: a frame that doesn't clog
Traditional spading machines get stuck in wet clay — the Fentum doesn't. The open frame design is no coincidence but the result of years of testing on Zeeland clay. Thanks to the wide passages between components, soil has nowhere to hold on. The machine cleans itself as it drives. An added advantage: the open frame gives the driver a clear view from the cab of what is happening on the ground behind the machine.

From prototype to production
From drawing board in 2015 to new generation in 2023
The first prototype of the crankshaft spading machine rolled out of the test hall in 2015. Every season, customers and our own staff provided concrete feedback. In 2023 we introduced the new generation: easier to maintain, more solid, with a roomier frame that makes cleaning out in heavy clay unnecessary. Available in 3.0 and 3.5 metre working widths. This is how Fentum builds machines: step by step, based on what really happens in practice.
